On Sep. 11, Google revealed its plan to set up the second data center in Taiwan, following the inauguration of the same facility in Changhua County six year ago.
The company has procured the land in Tainan Technology Industrial Park (TTIP) to the meet the need of data storage as well as to support the business growth in the Asia-Pacific.
In 2013, Google had invested $780M in Changhua to build the largest data center in the region. The company sees the innovation-supporting environment and the geographical location of the island, as pointed out in an official blog post on the news.
Strong infrastructure, business-friendly policy and high quality talent are also the advantages that attract Google, incentivizing the company to build the second data center in the country.
Earlier this year, it had also purchased solar energy from power plants in Tainan to fulfill its promise to power all the facilities with renewable energy.
As the investment in Taiwan increases, Google expects to bring in more job opportunities. Also, the company will expand the internship program launched in the first data center last year, having seen a number of former interns hired as permanent employees.
