Hospitals and health systems across the world are looking at telehealth strategies to advance in the telemedicine industry. PressureDOT is at the forefront of remote critical monitoring as it recently developed the world's smallest wireless intra-abdominal pressure sensing capsule.
PressureDOT is a real-time wireless pressure sensor platform used in critical care to prevent unnecessary laparotomy and prevent organ failure in pancreatitis, traumatic abdomen, and septic patients.
“The possibility of telemedicine lies in the first equipment to implement remote critical monitoring. Because PressureDOT is aimed at irreplaceability of special patient groups, it just happens to be the stepping stone for digital critical care and be the first product of continuous wireless the detection system,” said PressureDOT Founder and Dr. Ranson Liao, who is also a medical doctor and professor of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
Intra-abdominal pressure monitoring is part of critical care. Doctors are facing numerous difficulties in measuring intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) correctly through checking intravesical pressure aside from the fact that the process costs a lot of time and manpower.
The conventional hydrostatic pressure measurement doesn’t always show accurate results, and cannot offer real-time and continuous measurement.
PressureDOT simplifies the process of measure IAP, with precise results that reduces the misdiagnosis of IAH and ACS. PressureDOT decreases the possibility of intravesical and nosocomial infections.
Liao said PressureDOT is the world's smallest real-time wireless intra-abdominal pressure sensing capsule, it can continuously measure intra-abdominal pressure.
The capsule is composed of a pressure sensor and PCBA. It can pass into the body via swallowing or nasogastric tube delivery. The capsule adopts advanced packaging technology. Once the patient swallows the capsule, the system works automatically.
PressureDOT is designed with a high-efficiency antenna that is suitable for the body. It transmits signals with low acceleration. The external receiver system uses a special antenna array to track the capsule position and gastrointestinal motility in real-time. Doctors and health care providers can then monitor the patient's bio information with a mobile device.
Some of the data that PressureDOT provides include intra-abdominal pressure, temperature, pressure trend, and capsular 3D location tracking. All these offer physicians the most reliable information, for making the proper diagnosis and intervention, to avoid delayed treatment.
With the support of PressureDOT, doctors can measure the real-time intra-abdominal pressure accurately and manage intra-abdominal hypertension earlier to avoid the onset of abdominal compartment syndrome and reduce mortality.
Because PressureDOT can provide more information, it could provide the right time to take emergency surgery resulting in reducing the mortality rate from 50% to 5%. This incredible innovation has made PressureDOT being selected by Taiwan Tech Arena (TTA) to showcase at CES 2021 along with the featured 100 Taiwanese startups.
Liao said the year 2020 is the most important year for the development of remote digital health systems. “It is necessary to find the correct direction of healthcare for the next decade. The possibility of telemedicine lies in the first equipment to implement remote critical monitoring. PressureDOT is the stepping stone for digital critical care and the first product of continuous wireless detection systems.
