On Saturday, June 25th, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (CCCT) is hosting the 15th annual Celebration Canada at Taipei Yuanshan Park in Taipei. This free, family-friendly event will run from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm. It is expected that there will be over 9000 people attending the event, and will be the largest Canada Day Celebration outside of the country.
“Celebration Canada is the largest event held by foreigners in Taiwan and also is Canada’s largest event held outside Canada anywhere in the world. Althoght due to the Covid-19 we postponed last two years’ event, in 2019 Celebration Canada there were over 9,000 people attened, and we are really excited this year Celebration Canada is back,” said Jordan Reeves, Executive Director, Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.
“Canada and Taiwan’s trade volume has passed 10 billions and has collaborated on more and more projects,” said Reeves, “sincerely welcome Taiwanese to join the event and have some cold beers or bubble tea to celebrate the friendship with Canada.”
Celebration Canada is the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan’s take on the Canada Day celebrations that take place throughout the country on the 1st of July. It is the largest foreign-run event in Taiwan and it is the largest Canada Day Celebration outside of the country.
Musical entertainment throughout the day will be provided by an array of acts spanning many genres including: Jim Hauer (folk rock), Pangolin (rock), Infrasounds (funk/soul), The Rockits (blues), Balkazar (Balkan funk) and headlined by the Canada Day All Star Band who will play some of the biggest hits from Canadian-born artists.
Some of Taiwan’s food and beverage vendors will be selling traditional Canadian classics as well as other delicious international fare at the event. Grand Prize for the raffle is round-trip airfare to Canada provided courtesy of Air Canada. It will also feature dozens of prizes donated from companies such as Hyatt Taipei, Roots, and Hshinchuku.
There will also be a poutine eating contest, sponsored by The Poutinerie, in which contestants will see who can eat as much of the Canadian delicacy of french fries and cheese curds slathered with gravy as they can in a set amount of time. And for the first time, there will also be a Canadian-themed fashion runway show.
The Family Zone will feature a giant inflatable slide, hockey, fun games, and activities, face painting and stick on tattoos. Northland Power is sponsoring the area and has designed fun and educational material so the children can learn about the importance of green energy and conservation as they play.
