In the Hardware Forum, Impact Science Ventures managing partner Michelle Kiang, Andes Technology COO Emerson Hsiao and cofounder of FP Solutions Lewis Hong shared tips for the commercialization process and the importance of talents. The hardware industry is not like the software industry, usually hardware needs more time to develop so it is important to define the market precisely.
The speakers also talked about how science and innovations create opportunities for new businesses but the impact on the commercialization of hardware products is less obvious than in other industries. The commercialization process necessitates the consideration of the overall market business model, fundraising, market niche, product positioning, time-to-market, marketing strategies, and more. In this forum, the speakers shared their experiences and success stories from the perspectives of venture capitalists, technology experts, and business operators to dissect the challenges and solutions faced by companies at different stages of growth.
In the Biotech Forum, Senti Biosciences founder Tim Lu, UC. Berkeley Dean of the School of Public Health Michael Lu, and VP of Octant Bio Hannah Shen emphasize that to succeed in the post-pandemic landscape, biotech leaders must have a clear vision of their short- and long-term goals aligning with the public health policies. Forum participants got a taste of the future in entrepreneurship, investment, and public health.
It was also shared that after the all-time highs of biotech investments and valuations over the past two years, the market is undergoing a tectonic shift, with the potential to greatly influence life sciences strategy, deal-making, and investments. Despite the recent correction, growing geopolitical complexities, and market volatility, the fundamentals of biotech across the US and European markets remain strong.
In the Web3 Forum, founder of XREX Wayne Huang, director of Filecoin Foundation Clara Tsao, and principal of Blockchain Founders Fund Tobias Bauer all have a positive view for Taiwan to develop the Web3 industry, and they also listed the following aspects for boosting web3 growth in taiwan: (1) Culture: the need to support flexible work styles and management; (2) Education: the promotion of computer technology education; (3) Funding: Taiwan’s government could be more supportive of investment in this area; (4) Laws and regulations: taxation or other preferential incentives; (5) Corporate collaborations: Taiwan boasts a strong hardware industry and should make good use of this advantage to adopt web3 business models.
In the Venture Capital Forum, Acorn Campus Chairman Wu-Fu Chen, 886 Studio Managing Partner Kai Huang, and AME Cloud Ventures Principle Wretch Chien shared their lessons learned as entrepreneurs and as startup investors, market insights and trends in the tech industry. They also shared the opportunities and challenges for Taiwanese entrepreneurs and investors in Silicon Valley in the post-epidemic era, in light of the tension between China and the United States, the strong dollar, and interest rate hikes.
Kai and Wretch mentioned that they wish founders can stay true to themselves instead of mimicking others. They said that Elon Musk and Zoom CEO Eric Yuan have different personalities and they stay true to themselves and focus on their own path, so both of them are successful.
Taiwan Tech Summit successfully broadcasted Taiwan’s latest technology and ideas in the US and had built a deeper connection for tech ecosystem between two sides. It can not be successful without Taiwanese people and government teaming up together.
