Taiwan national startup brand Startup Island TAIWAN built a Taiwan pavilion in Singapore’s largest startup and technology exhibition SWITCH, and brought 27 taiwanese startups to attend a series of events.
In the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of the global startup ecosystem, Singapore stands out as a beacon of opportunity and innovation. This vibrant city-state, nestled in the heart of Southeast Asia, has earned its reputation as a premier hub for startups and emerging tech companies.
Singapore's allure for startups is multifaceted, with a combination of factors that create a nurturing environment for entrepreneurial success. Its strategic location as a gateway to Asia and a global financial center is just the tip of the iceberg.
One of the most compelling reasons for startups to consider Singapore is its business-friendly policies and regulatory framework. The government has actively promoted entrepreneurship through various incentives, tax benefits, and support programs, making it easier for startups to set up and operate in the city.
Furthermore, Singapore's exceptional infrastructure, robust intellectual property protection, and access to a highly skilled workforce make it an ideal place for tech-driven businesses to thrive. The city is home to world-class universities, research institutions, and a dynamic community of investors, mentors, and collaborators, all of which provide the necessary ecosystem for startups to flourish.
"In light of Singapore's unique position in the global startup ecosystem, Startup Island TAIWAN has established connections with SWITCH and multiple partners within the Singapore ecosystem to organize a series of events. These include gatherings, demo pitches, and the opportunity for startups to attend SWITCH.
Startup Island TAIWAN has set up a Taiwan Pavilion inside SWITCH, bringing 27 startups with booths. This marks the seventh year of SWITCH. In comparison to other exhibitions, SWITCH attracts more than 100 countries and hosts 300 global startups. International media outlets, such as the Financial Times, Channel News Asia, The Business Times, and The Straits Times, also participate in SWITCH, providing Taiwanese startups with the opportunity to pitch their stories to international media.
On the day preceding the official start of SWITCH, Startup Island TAIWAN and Startup Terrace collaborate with the Taipei Business Association in Singapore Junior Chapter (TBASJC) to host an event, the Taiwan-Singapore Startup Summit. This event offers opportunities for Taiwanese startups to engage with Singaporean entrepreneurs.
Even in the post-COVID era, in-person meetings remain a cornerstone of effective business development. In-person meetings offer opportunities for spontaneous encounters and the exchange of business cards, leading to valuable connections and partnerships. These connections often extend beyond the meeting room, potentially opening doors to new opportunities and collaborations.
Over the course of 3 days at the Taiwan Pavilion and through a series of gatherings with local partners, several startups shared that they had made significant progress in their business ventures in Singapore. AI intellectual property startup Aiplux mentioned that they had discussions with AI Singapore, ACE Singapore, and IPOS International about potential collaborations. They also received interest from three VC firms. Green tech startup Seasonic and medtech startup dentall also garnered interest from several VC firms.
