When Mark Hsieh, co-founder of Environmental and Human Technologies (EHT), encountered the unpleasant odors in London's subway, it sparked an idea within him: to develop a solution. Concurrently, while Dyson's Zone Air Purifier garnered attention for its distinctive design, discussions about innovative air purification methods were already underway.
The Taiwanese entrepreneur and graduate of London University then envisioned creating an air purifier that could be carried anywhere. However, embarking on a hardware venture in Silicon Valley presented its challenges. And so, EHT's journey began, driven by the goal of making air purifiers that could clean air for everyone.
Mark's decision to launch his venture in the United States was strategic. One reason for this choice was Peggy Hsieh, Mark’s sister, who moved to the US from Taiwan due to her allergies and found better air quality there. Having gained American citizenship, her familiarity with American culture and market dynamics facilitated their entry into the US market.
Additionally, unlike Asia, where wearing masks is common practice, the Western market presented a unique challenge due to cultural norms against facial coverings (such as in Europe, where covering one's face for security reasons is not permitted). A portable air purifier emerged as an ideal solution for Western countries.
EHT's technology diverges from conventional air purifiers by emphasizing efficiency without excessive power consumption. Utilizing data analytics, EHT devices intelligently analyze real-time air quality, making precise adjustments to address specific pollutants. Furthermore, this data-driven approach informs the selection and optimization of hardware components, such as HEPA 13 filters and PA 0.3 technology, enhancing overall performance.
EHT boasts two distinctive products: LIK and MyComfyTech. LIK stands out as the lightest HEPA air purifier, featuring the innovative Hi-Vel filter. This filter technology ensures HEPA 13 grade performance, effectively blocking over 99% of PM0.3, PM2.5, viruses, and bacteria. What's more, its unique low-pressure drop characteristics allow LIK air purifiers to maintain high airflow with smaller fans and batteries, enhancing their eco-friendliness and sustainability. Additionally, LIK's filter is changeable, ensuring continuous efficiency.
On the other hand, MyComfyTech is a wearable air purifier designed in a neck fan style, equipped with a built-in cooler/heater for outdoor comfort. Its detachable design and versatile accessories cater to various occasions and user preferences, enhancing usability and convenience. Furthermore, MyComfyTech also features the Hi-Vel filter, ensuring it delivers effective air purification.
What truly sets EHT apart from others in the market is their approach to air detection and treatment. Rather than solely providing temperature and humidity readings, their devices prioritize indicating air quality and offering personalized solutions based on user health conditions. This focus on addressing individual needs, coupled with their motto, "Precision air protection defined by user behavior," underscores their dedication to delivering effective and tailored air purification solutions for everyone.
As EHT transformed their vision into tangible products, they embraced crowdfunding platforms to gather support. Their first product quickly gained momentum, catching the eye of many backers. With an upcoming Kickstarter campaign set for July and plans to team up with ten partners, including those in the helmet and baby market, EHT is ready to move forward. They aim to integrate their air purification technology into various products, like safety helmets, as they keep working to make the air cleaner for everyone.
