Struggling with persistent back pain? Beyond the treatments covered by National Health Insurance, patients often need personalized, out-of-pocket therapies like one-on-one manual therapy and exercise therapy to achieve gradual recovery. As of May 2024, AI Care has successfully raised NT$105 million to support this mission.
AI Care's journey began with the shared vision of Joseph Chang and his long-time university friend, both driven by a passion for revolutionizing healthcare. Joseph, with over two decades of experience in the medical field, had honed his expertise in various roles, including medical investment, innovative healthcare services, and smart healthcare information integration. His career highlights include transforming a cosmetic clinic in Shanghai into a renowned brand within the aesthetic medical field during his eight years in healthcare.
Joseph Chang's extensive background laid a strong foundation for AI Care's mission. His previous ventures included collaborations with prominent medical institutions like Taichung Veterans General Hospital and Taipei Beitou Health Management Hospital, where he implemented advanced imaging and health check-up centers. These experiences equipped him with the knowledge and vision to develop AI Care's innovative rehabilitation solutions.
The heart of AI Care’s approach lies in its commitment to personalized care. To meet the unique needs of each patient, AI Care employs a dedicated team of engineers to develop customized solutions, integrating an ERP system and LINE for seamless communication and efficient management. Starting in June, they will also offer nutritional consultations, providing patients with one-on-one sessions with nutritionists to enhance their overall health and recovery. This focus on personalization and technology is what sets AI Care apart, allowing them to provide exceptional care and support to their patients.
The founders' combined expertise and vision have been pivotal in AI Care's rapid growth and success, establishing it as a leader in the rehabilitation field, poised to expand both domestically and internationally.
AI Care's innovative approach revolves around the "Three M's": Manual therapy, Modality techniques, and Movement equipment. Manual therapy involves hands-on techniques by skilled therapists to alleviate pain and improve mobility. Modality techniques utilize advanced devices like ultrasound and electrical stimulation to enhance treatment effectiveness. Movement equipment includes specialized exercise machines that help patients regain strength and function through tailored physical activity.
Despite Taiwan's excellent healthcare system, Joseph Chang explains, "the healthcare system in Taiwan is very good, but if you want better one-on-one service, superior equipment, or quick problem resolution, Taiwan's national healthcare does not offer this quality of care, so we do it for you." To address these needs, AI Care employs over ten engineers to create customized solutions, integrating an ERP system and LINE for seamless communication and management.
AI Care further enhances patient care with their app, Youdon. The app facilitates detailed health reports and data tracking, ensuring patients stay committed to their rehabilitation exercises. "The percentage of patients that continue doing rehabilitation exercises at home is actually 10%" explained Joseph Chang. This low adherence makes rehabilitation ineffective, prolonging patient suffering. The Youdon app provides follow-ups to ensure patients perform the exercises shown in the app's videos. It sends reminders, logs progress, and allows doctors to monitor if patients are following their rehabilitation plans. This technological integration significantly improves patient compliance and outcomes by offering continuous support and feedback. By combining these advanced tools with their comprehensive approach, AI Care delivers exceptional physical therapy services.
AI Care is rapidly expanding its footprint, currently operating 17 clinics and planning to open two new branches by June 8th. Looking ahead, they aim to establish clinics in Hsinchu, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. Joseph Chang, driven by a vision of standardizing high-quality care, aims for each clinic to be equipped similarly, ensuring consistency across locations. This expansion doesn't stop at Taiwan's borders; AI Care has its sights set on Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and China.
Their clinics serve a diverse range of patients, from those suffering from chronic pain to athletes needing rehabilitation. Each clinic includes three to four doctors, eight to ten physical therapists, and athletic trainers. While 80% of their therapists work full-time at a single location, 20% are part-time with flexible work arrangements.
To further enhance rehabilitation outcomes, AI Care collaborates with international companies to develop smart exercise clothing embedded with multiple sensors. These innovative garments monitor patients’ movements, ensuring exercises are performed correctly and improving the effectiveness of their rehabilitation. This blend of personalized care, technological integration, and continuous innovation ensures that AI Care remains at the forefront of physical therapy and rehabilitation services.
