Did you ever wish your pet could tell you when it was sick? According to data from the Pew Research Center, approximately 63% of Americans own a pet, and 97% of these pet owners consider their pets to be as much a part of their family as human members.
In light of this, let's introduce you to AI For Pet, a startup founded in 2020 to help pet owners better understand their pets' health. Using AI, their app TTcare can assess pets' eyes, skin, teeth, and joints, achieving a 95% accuracy rate in detecting diseases.
TTcare utilizes AI technology to identify symptoms and abnormalities in pets. Pet owners can use the in-app camera to capture photos or videos, which the AI analyzes to detect issues. Photos can identify conditions like runny noses or skin diseases, while videos provide detailed analysis for detecting joint problems. This advanced AI system not only detects symptoms but also offers advice, ensuring comprehensive pet care through an easy-to-use app.
For instance, you can take a photo and upload it to the app. The AI will analyze the image and provide a probability of what illness your pet might have. If the AI detects that your pet has an eye disease, it will list the possible conditions along with the likelihood of each one. For example, the analysis might indicate a 30% risk of conjunctivitis, a 15% risk of glaucoma, and other probabilities for additional conditions, giving you a comprehensive overview of potential health issues.
The app also offers teleconsulting with veterinarians who can assess the pet's symptoms and provide advice. In addition to telemedicine services, personalized nutrition advice is provided by pet health experts to advise pet owners on suitable food choices for their pets. Currently, the app collaborates with veterinarians from over 35 clinics, including 25 in South Korea and 10 in the US.
At present, TTcare’s AI advice services are available for free. However, pet owners who need online consultation services are required to pay a supplementary fee. TTcare's app also features a marketplace where pet owners can buy AI For Pet’s own line of pet food supplements and snacks. Currently, these products are only available on their platform, but starting in July 2024, they will also be available on Amazon, Walmart, and Petco.
While telemedicine relies on pet owners' observations and camera footage, AI for Pet mitigates reliability concerns with a robust data collection strategy. The company has amassed over 2.5 million images, supported by veterinarians from 35 clinics across South Korea and the US, and employs a team of three in-house veterinarians.
CEO Euna Huh, with over 25 years of experience in AI, leads the company. The team also includes key members Sungjun Park and Jay Lim. Initially focusing on cats, AI For Pet has expanded to dogs and plans to include horses in the future. They collaborate with animal shelters in Korea and the USA, introducing new pet parents to their app.
For now AI For Pet cover south korea and us and they aims to expand to Taiwan and Japan. targeting the US and Asian markets, with a goal to cover Europe next year. They are also seeking Taiwanese venture capital to support their growth. The company has now advanced to the Series B funding stage. Jay Lim mentioned that they aim to secure approximately $15 million (around 480 million New Taiwan Dollars) at this stage to support their future market strategies.
Looking ahead, AI For Pet has exciting plans to partner with animal shelters in both Korea and the USA. When new pet parents adopt from these shelters, they will be introduced to the app, which offers essential advice on caring for their new furry friends. With an impressive 300,000 downloads and growing, this app is a must-have for cat and dog owners.
