At the start of 2025, LINE NEXT, a subsidiary focused on Web3 development, will introduce Mini Dapps globally. These blockchain-based applications are directly accessible from LINE Messenger through the Dapp Portal’s Official Account, eliminating the need for separate downloads and making Web3 services more convenient for users.
A Dapp (Decentralized Application) operates on blockchain technology, ensuring a decentralized and secure experience. LINE’s initial batch of Mini Dapps focuses on gaming, social media, and content, with users able to earn rewards, trade virtual assets and NFTs, and enjoy Web3 experiences directly from the LINE app.
Traditionally, Web3 adoption has been hindered by complexity. However, with Mini Dapps integrated into LINE, users in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia can access blockchain-powered applications with minimal effort. Users can discover various Mini Dapps through the Dapp Portal, embedded in LINE Messenger’s Home tab, or visit each Dapp’s own LINE Official Account for direct access. A web browser version of Dapp Portal will also be launched, expanding accessibility further.
The Kaia blockchain ecosystem underpins LINE’s Mini Dapps, providing a scalable and efficient Web3 infrastructure. John Cho, Vice President of Marketing at the Kaia Foundation, highlighted that LINE’s 1 billion registered users and 200 million monthly active users present a significant opportunity for Web3 applications, especially given users’ strong engagement with digital content, stickers, and in-app purchases.
To support developers, LINE NEXT and the Kaia Foundation launched Kaia Wave, a program designed to accelerate Web3 adoption. The first 32 Mini Dapps were built through this initiative, using LINE NEXT’s software development kit (SDK). Some of the standout projects include:
LINE’s in-app wallet allows users to receive Dapp rewards, trade virtual assets and NFTs, and participate in the Web3 ecosystem without needing external tools. This integration ensures that users don’t need prior blockchain knowledge to benefit from Mini Dapps.
According to Youngsu Ko, CEO of LINE NEXT, accessibility is key: “A true popularization of Web3 services depends on their accessibility and usability. Mini Dapps based on LINE Messenger will become the first large-scale Web3 user adoption case in Asia.”
Dr. Sam Seo, Chairman of Kaia DLT Foundation, emphasized Kaia’s commitment to Web3 expansion: “We are excited to provide a seamless Web3 experience through Mini Dapps and Dapp Portal. Kaia will continue to provide highly reliable and scalable blockchain solutions for LINE NEXT and our Web3 partners.”
Beyond gaming, LINE aims to evolve into a Super App, incorporating social networking, e-commerce, and financial services. While WeChat in China has already demonstrated the success of a multi-functional app without Web3, LINE sees blockchain as a unique differentiator.
Tokenization will allow LINE to offer users rewards with real monetary value, encouraging long-term engagement and retention. Historically, blockchain products have been built from a technology-first perspective, limiting their mainstream adoption. Kaia’s approach is different—it focuses on integrating Web3 into users’ daily lives without requiring them to learn new technologies or change their habits.
To celebrate the launch of Dapp Portal, LINE NEXT is offering a limited-time reward program. Users can earn Dapp rewards and KAIA tokens simply by interacting with Mini Dapps. Details about the campaign are available on LINE NEXT’s event page.
With over 1,000 Web3 projects planned by the end of 2025, LINE’s Mini Dapps and Dapp Portal represent a significant step toward mainstream Web3 adoption in Asia.
