A recent international study has ranked Taipei as the safest city in the world for women working remotely. The report, published by travel platform Holidu, analyzed over 200 cities using data from Nomads.com. Taipei stood out thanks to its high safety scores, walkability, and welcoming environment for both women and foreign visitors.
According to the study, 90 percent of women in Taipei feel safe walking alone at night, giving it the second-highest score globally in this category. The city was also praised for its friendliness toward both women and international travelers, making it an ideal place for female digital nomads.
Taiwan’s commitment to attracting digital professionals further enhances its appeal. In early 2025, the country introduced a digital nomad visa, allowing remote workers to stay for up to six months, offering flexibility and making Taiwan a top choice for those seeking a work-life balance.
Taipei offers a rich lifestyle beyond work. From the historic Red House, a cultural hub for design and LGBTQ+ events, to scenic spots like Elephant Mountain, where you can hike and enjoy panoramic views of the city, Taipei combines culture, nature, and a thriving food scene. Taiwan’s affordable cost of living and modern infrastructure make it a budget-friendly and practical choice for digital nomads, especially those who need reliable internet and tech to support their remote work.
Taipei isn’t the only Taiwanese city earning recognition. Kaohsiung, a port city in southern Taiwan, ranked seventh in the global list of safest cities for female digital nomads. This makes Taiwan one of the few Asian countries with two cities in the top 10, underscoring the country's appeal as a secure and empowering destination for women looking to work remotely.
With the introduction of the digital nomad visa and Taiwan’s efforts to support remote workers, the island is establishing itself as a leading destination for digital professionals. Cities like Taipei and Kaohsiung are becoming hubs for innovation, culture, and opportunity.
The study reflects a broader global trend of female digital nomads seeking safer, more inclusive cities to work and live. As remote work grows in popularity, cities like Taipei are leading the way by offering not only safety but also a vibrant, culturally rich environment. Taiwan’s forward-thinking approach to supporting digital workers, especially women, positions it as a key player in the growing remote work movement.
