To help improve Indonesia’s struggling agriculture sector, Taiwanese startup DATAYOO is introducing remote monitoring tools based on AI and satellite spectrum data. The country, which imported over 500,000 tons of rice in 2022, continues to face serious food supply issues. Fragmented farmland, smallholder-driven production, and increasing climate disruptions have made it difficult to improve yields or reduce reliance on imports. Over the past two years, Indonesia’s food crop production index has declined by 2.6 points, equivalent to 2.6 million tons of lost output.
DATAYOO’s solution, a platform called FarmiSpace, is now being deployed with local partners to help farmers monitor crops remotely, detect problems earlier, and make better use of limited resources.
FarmiSpace uses satellite spectrum data with 3×3 meter resolution and processes it with AI models to track plant health indicators like water stress, nitrogen content, and chlorophyll levels. The results are delivered through a dashboard, giving farmers a clearer picture of what’s happening across their fields without having to install sensors or carry out constant fieldwork.
In Indonesia, early adopters have used the platform to identify issues such as plant disease and water stress and have improved irrigation strategies in areas that are traditionally harder to access.
To expand the impact of its system, DATAYOO has partnered with Indonesian agri-tech company Blessed Bentara Agri. The collaboration connects FarmiSpace’s remote sensing and AI monitoring with Bentara’s on-the-ground capabilities, such as drone spraying and automated irrigation. This allows farmers to respond quickly when anomalies are detected from satellite data.
Earlier pilot projects helped validate FarmiSpace’s technical performance. Across several provinces, the system reached 92 percent accuracy in detecting crop conditions and up to 99.8 percent in yield prediction.
The platform is also designed to be cost-effective. Monitoring two hectares of farmland with FarmiSpace’s highest-tier plan costs around 82 US dollars per year, which still makes it accessible for many smallholder farmers.
DATAYOO is currently developing localized crop models for Indonesia’s key agricultural products, including rice, palm oil, bananas, shallots, and chili. These models are tailored to regional growing conditions and aim to improve the accuracy and relevance of insights delivered to farmers.
By combining real-time satellite spectrum data, AI analysis, and local infrastructure, FarmiSpace is helping lay the groundwork for smarter and more resilient farming in Indonesia.
