In a major move to democratize access to AI development resources, Taiwanese tech giant Wistron has announced the launch of the Wistron Computing Power Donation Program, an initiative to give away one million GPU hours annually starting in 2026. This effort, done in partnership with the Epoch Foundation’s Garage+, is designed to lower the computational barriers faced by AI startups and academic institutions, accelerating innovation in both the private and research sectors.
Under this program, selected teams will receive between 5,000 to 35,000 GPU hours for a six-month period. The compute time can be used for training, fine-tuning, and deploying AI models, as well as running complex simulations. The initiative is open to startups founded within the last seven years with a Taiwan connection and to Taiwanese academic institutions with clear research goals.
“The cost of computing power is the biggest obstacle for many innovators,” shared Simon Lin, Chairman of Wistron. “Technology shouldn’t just be a competition. It should be a force that enables shared progress.”
Wistron’s new initiative goes beyond simply offering free compute time. The program emphasizes technical innovation, commercialization potential, team readiness, and social or industrial impact. Applicants are required to present a clear utilization plan for the GPU hours, including datasets, prior experience with multi-GPU environments, and how their work can contribute to the broader ecosystem through open data or code sharing.
From language model fine-tuning to image generation, the provided compute range is enough to support mid-sized AI projects, especially those in the critical fields of AI and sustainability technology. Wistron will evaluate submissions with the help of professional reviewers, and successful projects may be eligible for extended support based on their outcomes.
What sets the Wistron Computing Power Donation Program apart is its integration with Garage+, a well-known startup accelerator in Taiwan. The collaboration aims to connect promising innovations with real-world applications by providing not only computing resources but also mentorship and industry matchmaking.
“Wistron is turning computing power into a public good,” said Simon Lin. “The donation program is built on a belief: that computing power should drive ideas forward.”
With applications open from November 3 to December 12 2025, and selections announced in early January 2026, this program offers a clear, competitive opportunity for teams with bold ideas and the capacity to execute them.
As Taiwan positions itself as a hub for AI innovation, Wistron's approach provides not just infrastructure, but a platform for sustainable, socially impactful growth in the tech ecosystem.
