Taiwan AI Labs recently participated as a Gold Partner at Machine Learning Prague 2025, one of Europe’s leading applied AI conferences. The event was held from April 28 to 30 at the O2 Universum in Prague, Czech Republic, bringing together thousands of data scientists, engineers, and industry leaders from around the world. Discussions centered on practical AI applications and challenges, with particular emphasis on healthcare, finance, information security, and the development of trustworthy AI technologies.
The Czech National AI Hub formally recommended Taiwan AI Labs as a trusted international partner. This endorsement highlights the Lab’s strong alignment with key European AI regulations, including the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The recognition reflects Taiwan AI Labs’ efforts to develop AI technologies that meet strict privacy, ethical, and compliance standards.
At the conference, Taiwan AI Labs was introduced as Asia’s first open AI research institute. Its research priorities closely align with the core values emphasized by the EU for trustworthy AI. The Lab’s work is centered on four main areas:
Federated Learning & Data Privacy: Enabling AI model training across decentralized datasets without exposing sensitive personal information, thus maintaining data privacy while supporting collaborative learning.
Healthcare AI & Ethical Governance: Developing clinically validated, explainable AI systems under ethical oversight, with applications aimed at improving healthcare outcomes while ensuring safety and transparency.
Civic Tech & Misinformation Resilience: Creating tools designed to detect and counter misinformation, which supports democratic processes and helps protect public discourse from manipulation.
Transparency & Open Innovation: Publishing research findings openly, promoting open-source AI models, and embedding accountability mechanisms to foster trust and reproducibility in AI development.
In response to the increasing global emphasis on digital rights and data protection, Taiwan AI Labs developed FedGPT, a platform that integrates federated learning with generative AI capabilities. FedGPT allows institutions to train AI models internally, eliminating the need to transfer sensitive data to external clouds or third parties. This design reduces privacy risks and complies with strict regulatory requirements.
FedGPT’s architecture supports collaboration across institutions and even across borders, making it particularly suited for sectors such as healthcare, finance, and government administration, where protecting sensitive information is paramount. Early pilot projects involving hospitals and financial firms in Taiwan and Europe have demonstrated FedGPT’s ability to enable secure, scalable, and compliant AI development.
Taiwan AI Labs’ international presence has been growing steadily. After its participation in the 2024 AI Action Summit in France, the Lab was invited by the Czech Ministry of Health and national medical institutions to co-develop federated learning and generative AI solutions. This joint initiative seeks to integrate privacy-aware AI technologies into the Czech healthcare system, addressing practical challenges while meeting stringent European regulatory standards.
Founded in 2017, Taiwan AI Labs is a privately funded, mission-driven open AI research institute with offices in Taipei and Kaohsiung. The Lab focuses on AI technologies grounded in trust, privacy, and human-centric design. Its areas of expertise include smart healthcare, federated learning, AI-generated media, and misinformation detection. The Lab has contributed to global research discussions in human-AI interaction fields such as AI music generation, speech recognition, and semantic understanding.
The Lab employs over 100 AI researchers and engineers, combining academic rigor with practical application to develop AI systems designed for real-world impact under responsible and ethical frameworks.
Ethan Tu, Founder of Taiwan AI Labs, commented on the evolving AI landscape: “Trustworthy technology is Taiwan’s strength. In today’s landscape, regulatory compliance is not a burden—it’s a prerequisite for participating in the global AI ecosystem.”
